As an experienced aromatherapist convinced by the benefits of natural ingredients, Corinne Taylor decided create to her own range of beauty products using essential oils, so people could experience the benefits on a daily basis. Corinne is passionate about all things natural and organic and it transpires in everything she does – each ingredient she chooses is hand picked for a specific therapeutic purpose. It is a great pleasure to include Corinne in our community of makers and designers.
Tell us who you are and what you do.
I am a qualified Aromatherapist with my own range of 100% natural wellbeing products for the bath, body and home. Our range of products are made with only natural, organic ingredients, free from palm oil, sls and parabens and are vegan and cruelty free. Along with my partner and co founder Dan, I manage our business and a small team in our rural East Sussex workshop in the outskirts of Brighton, where we develop and create our range.
What made you decide to become a maker?
I have always been extremely creative and loved art and textiles at school and eventually went on to study art at university. A few years later when traveling in Asia, I discovered a new found passion for all things holistic. On my return I decided to study a Holistic Therapies diploma, which included Aromatherapy. It was here that I learned about essential oils and their many benefits. After several years working as a therapist and using the oils to help treat my clients, I decided to create my own range of products in the hope that people could benefit from it at home on a daily basis.
Describe an average day.
I always start the working day between 9 and 10 after a herbal tea and a nice healthy breakfast! The first job is to pack up and ship out any orders. I will then spend the next couple of hours catching up on emails and doing any admin. I am in charge of our instagram and social media so I will spend some time on this each day, whilst my partner Dan manages the workshop. The rest of the day will always be different depending on what is going on at the time. I may be working on a new product, something that can take time but a part of my business I really enjoy. It may be a candle day – in that case there will be two of us in the workshop making candles, or I may be helping Dan create labels for a new product and researching packaging. At the moment we are in the process of getting some certifications for the products which has been fairly time consuming!
Where do you find your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from nature and working with natural ingredients. I am always researching new natural ingredients that will not only be effective and support the customer’s wellbeing but be good for the planet too. It is fantastic to be providing a vegan & cruelty free, 100% natural alternative to the thousands of products sold daily on the high street.
What are your favourite parts about being a maker?
I love working for myself and being able to manage my own time. I have never liked the structure of a 9-5 job and with running my business I can be as flexible as I like. Running a business has its ups and downs and it has been a massive learning curve, but I think I have learnt and grown more than I ever could working for someone else. When I receive fantastic product feedback or finally see a product come together after months of development it makes all the hard work totally worth it.
What couldn’t you live without?
The beautiful countryside surrounding our home. Walks in nature at the end of a long day really help clear my head – and give me the inspiration to start all over again the next day!
